CALL TO ACTION

WED 30th OCT! 3PM – 5PM HIGH RIGGS JOBCENTRE!

Currently, due to past decisions made under The Tory government, all claimants are being transferred from “legacy benefits” like Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) to Universal Credit.

According to law the vast majority of ESA claimants keep their ‘not fit for work status’ while being transferred over to universal credit, and continue to receive disability-related payments.

Local Jobcentres have been illegally forcing claimants to obtain a “fit note” from their GP, and subjecting us to unnecessary “work capability assessments”.

The Edinburgh Coalition Against Poverty (ECAP) held a demonstration outside of High Riggs jobcentre on 30th September, and delivered letters for the local management. We asked for confirmation that they would stop illegally harassing disabled claimants.

Four ECAP members went in, delivering a letter for and requesting a meeting with the local manager. Jobcentre staff told us that they were “unavailable”, and refused to give us any contact details. We were told that staff would pass on our letter, and the manager would phone us the next day.

We have had no further contact from High Riggs Jobcentre, or the DWP since.

No more illegal harassment of disabled benefit claimants!

Local claimants are escalating, and holding a second demonstration to apply pressure on High Riggs Jobcentre! We will not tolerate further illegal harassment of disabled benefit claimants!

The protest will take place on Wednesday 30th October, outside of High Riggs Jobcentre, 20 High Riggs, near Tollcross, Edinburgh EH3 9HU from 3pm till 5pm – attending for any time, even just half an hour, during that period would be a great contribution to the action. Please come and help us end austerity!
